Dr. James G. Hood has trained with some of the world’s best sedation dentists. He is rapidly becoming known as one of the leading Spokane Valley sedation dentists. Dr. James G. Hood has extensive knowledge in sedation dentistry and provides his patients with the very best dental care. Dr. James G. Hood is a member of several accredited organizations, including the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the Washington State Dental Association. As a professional and a family man, Dr. Hood’s affiliations and interests are varied, including a number of human interest topics, from politics to religion and many themes in between.

BRIEF BIO OF JAMES G. HOOD, D.D.S., M.A.
EARLY YEARS
James Gerard Hood was born on November 27, 1951, in Estherville, Iowa. He was the fifth of eleven children (six girls and five boys) in a large Roman Catholic family. For his grade school years, he attended elementary school at St. Patrick’s Catholic grade school in Estherville, through the eighth grade.
HIGH SCHOOL YEARS
From Estherville Jim went to St. Johns Preparatory School in Collegeville, Minnesota. He attended high school from freshmen through senior year and graduated in May 1970. Junior year in high school was spent as an exchange student in Melk, Austria. As one of twenty-six exchange students Hood traveled extensively visiting thirteen different countries in Europe. During his time in Austria Hood became fluent in German. In his senior year, he was active in football and track and set several track records, including the half mile-run, and was all-conference offense and defense in football.
SUMMER WORK
Throughout high school and college years, Hood worked summers as a greens keeper at Estherville Golf and Country Club, did road construction, and worked as part of a tear up gang for Rock Island Railroad.
COLLEGE YEARS
Hood was accepted into St. John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota, site of the largest monastery in the world (Benedictine). His Undergraduate major was a B.A. in Natural Science from St. John’s University, obtained in May of 1974, and a minor in Secondary Education.
TEACHING YEARS
After graduation from St. John’s University, Hood worked as a science teacher in the United States Virgin Islands and taught high school Science, Biology, Chemistry, and Marine Biology (all with labs) from grades sophomore to senior. Also Hood served as assistant football coach, head track coach for boys and girls, assistant soccer coach, and an assistant basketball coach. Mr. Hood was also a Sunday school teacher in the local Catholic Church. On the island of St. Croix, Hood taught during his 2nd year on the island at Country Day School and taught sophomore biology, lower-level science classes: life science and earth science, first aid, chemistry, and marine biology.
DENTAL SCHOOL
After 2 years of teaching science in the U.S. Virgin Islands Hood returned to the other side of the books and attended University of Iowa Dental School from 1976-1980 and graduated with a DDS degree in May of 1980. After graduating from dental school, Hood was certified to practice dentistry in fifteen states in the Mid-West. Hood also took the Washington State Board Dental Exam and the Idaho State Board Dental Exam and passed all three.
PRIVATE PRACTICE
James G. Hood, D.D.S. began his private practice of dentistry in Spokane, Washington in 1980. For thirty years, he has enjoyed providing quality dentistry to the people of Spokane Valley in the beautiful Inland Northwest.
PRESENT GRADUATE STUDIES
Presently working towards his Ph.D. in Leadership Studies, Gonzaga University, Dr. Hood is on a short hiatus.
