Dave Egger’s A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius is alive, angry, in your face, laugh out loud funny, with sardonic wit and poetic honesty. It captures two brothers in the throes of an absurd (Yes heartbreaking) situation in the possibly even more absurd city of San Francisco with all its lofty, left wing hippies, the starched collar Berkeley variety, and the winding, brake-wrenching hills. It’s unlike anything I’ve ever read before, so check it out if you’re up for a wild, funny, moving—in short—amazing book. Otherwise, stick to the usual stuffy prose and feel good about yourself in some uppity, Barnes-and-Nobles-recommended-this-book-to-me-so-I’m-going-to-read-it-and-like-it-it sort of way.
