Words for Today: “Metaphysical” and “Disability”

The Random House Dictionary 2010 defines metaphysical: ” concerned with first principles and ultimate grounds, as being, time, or substance.” As beings with the capacity for language, this means that our reality is transcribed by the language we choose to use. To say it another way, words shape the way we view the world. Aimee Mullins discusses the pitfalls of a negative vocabulary on CNN:
